Ok, we all want to have the latest and greatest in toys etc. I am a gadget freak and so are 95% of all people with DSLRs. Nikon will announce new DSLRs next week and the rumor mill is spinning so fast on the ‘net, it’s not even funny anymore. Why?
What happened to the good old times? Nowadays there is a craze of a new product every 6 months or so and then they are immediately pitted against Canon or vice versa. Is anyone even taking photos anymore? Is a DSLR lifecycle only about 6 months to a year? And then the rumors and specifications that come up now. Geez people, the new innovations do not NOT come all bundled in one, especially not in the base entry level model, especially not from Nikon.
Examples: HD video recording, first time in the Nikon D90, nothing else new really at the time, still just a 12mpixel sensor and a few evolutionary additions from the D80.Then D5000, nothing new really except a few additions. The same with the D3000. They were all evolutinary cameras, not REvolutionary cameras, especially not on the larger scale. the Nikon D700 was something else, but look at the price bracket.

Now, next week Nikon is expected to announce the Nikon D3100 and D95. If you follow and believe what’s going on on the rumor side, the 3100 will have features , more than one, that none of the other cameras have. Higher resolution sensor, good ISO, Continous AF in live view mode, 1080p Video recording and more. Great, so all that for an entry level camera that until now was the bottom line? Why again are we then waiting for the D95 OR buying anything else? Come one people back to reality!!! Most likely ONE of those features will be in the camera with maybe a higher amount of focus points. Nothing else. It does not make sense from a business perspective. Cameras nowadays take really good pictures and if you pack all of the features into one body you cannibalize your other models.

I love rumors and dreams just like everyone else but some of these specs re really getting ridiculous.

Let’s wait and see.
