Interesting thing happened to a friend of mine. He got yelled at for taking a photo with his DSLR on a public playground. Another mom came with a barrage of children and let them loose. Fair enough, it’s a public playground. Now, what was interesting was that as soon as she saw the Digital SLR camera, she went straight up to him and said:” Do not take photos here since only pedophiles do that and you are not authorized to take pictures with my children around”. WHAT?!?!?!

Ok, I am not a lawyer but in most countries you cannot label someone anything without proof. Also, if he wants to take pictures of his children in a public place, that is his thing and none elses. If he would take photos of the other children without permission that would be a completely different thing.

To all you paranoid mothers out there: 99.9999% of pedophiles most likely will NOT run around in a public place and take photos of kids where you can see it!!!

I just don’t understand the amout of pranoia nowadays. Everyone is by default doing something bad. The same with walking around London and taking photos. You can almost bet on being harrassed by the police under the terrorist act.

No offense but my taxes pay for public roads and places and you tell me i cannot take photos of it? The law clearly states , in most countries, that I can take photos in public places and FROM public places just not of people without their permission.

Please everyone give it a rest already, we the photographer community, just want to take photos of things. If you notice someone with a camera and a long or large lens, it might just be that he is interested in taking good photos above anything else. Not everyone is dangerous and a criminal.

If i am in the public and I want to take a picture of a building or of a friend or family, i frigging take it!
