Getting a sharp photo is every photographer’s dream and to get there you can employ several methods. Traditionally these ranged from tripods, monopods, very fast shutter speeds and gernaly just getting your camera still.
There was, however, the problem that if you were on the move or did not have a fast f2.8 or faster lens, your pictures ended up blurry and unsharp because you moved. Human beings cannot stand perfectly still for a long time, i mean several seconds, and long(er) exposures did not go well without the proper equipment. But then came image stabilzation.

There was a large number of requests to actually explain Aperture and depth of field instead of just the Aperture function and f-stop . Well I can understand this because as I looked at the actual definition of Aperture and searched for a human understandable explanation, I realized there are very few real explanations. Well this is now changed

Well on a mechanical side, Aperture is a series of interlocking blades that form a circular opening and can be contracted and expanded as one. The best example is your eye (iris). In low light it becomes a big opening and in the sunlight it becomes a small(er) black opening, just like a lens in low light and bright light.:) (more…)
Nowadays it is much easier to put your camera into Auto mode and just take pictures. Once you get around to trying new things you will very quickly stumble across the Aperture which is explained HERE in more detail. Now, putting your DSLR into full manual mode will give you full control over those three elements. and you can adjust in any other mode (except AUTO) pretty much any of these at any given time. Your camera most likely, if it is a DSLR, has the PASM modes: Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, Manual. For Canon users Tv is Shutter priority. (more…)
A lot of times that you see shots taken in relative low light or indoors they come out with an orange tint and don’t always look perfect. Many times on shots like that you can get responses fro online forums like:”Adjust your white balance” or “Wrong white balance”. What are they talking about? Well a simple explanation might shed a little light on this.
